“Bespoke” is one of those words that travel agencies reach for the way restaurants reach for “artisanal.” It sounds like care. It doesn't always come with any.
Here's a rough test: if the itinerary could be sold twice, unmodified, to two different clients with different reasons for traveling, it wasn't bespoke. It was a package with better font choices.
Real tailoring shows up in the small refusals, not the big gestures. It's telling a client that the hotel they asked for isn't actually right for the trip they described, even though it would have been the easier sale. It's building in a free afternoon because the itinerary was starting to read like a job, not a vacation. It's knowing which two nights in a fourteen-night trip are the ones worth spending real money on, and being honest about the other twelve.
We'd rather under-promise the word and over-deliver the substance. So we've mostly stopped saying it. You can decide for yourself whether the trip earns it.
